The Yak and Yeti was one of the first five-star hotels in Kathmandu and has stayed on top with great staff and management. There's a wonderful garden, two pools, tennis courts, a spa and more. The hotel hosts great restaurants, including the Chimney Restaurant which is operated by the family of the first hotelier in Nepal, Boris Lissanovitch. Boris met King Tribhuvan in Calcutta in the early 1950s and became one of the pioneers of tourism in Nepal.
Rooms are a bit small by modern standards, but they are distinctive and attractive: No chain-hotel ambience here.
Best of all, the Yak and Yeti is located in the center of the city, on a quiet lane just off Durbar Marg, the avenue that leads up to the new (1890s) palace. Shopping, dining, sightseeing and night life are a five minute walk away.
